NCC’s Comprehensive Digitization and Discoverability Program (CDDP) task force produces a new video series on cutting-edge digital projects, tools, and resources
From 2020 to 2021, the North American Coordinating Council on Japanese Library Resources (NCC) received generous funding from the Toshiba International Foundation to build a digital resource library on the NCC Website in support of scholars and librarians in Japanese Studies. After interviewing experts via Zoom, the Comprehensive Digitization and Discoverability Program (CDDP) task force asked them to create instructional videos focusing on exemplary, cutting-edge digital projects, tools, and resources. The videos showed both how to use them and which technologies went into their creation. Dr. Kiyonori Nagasaki, Senior Fellow at the International Institute for Digital Humanities acted as advisor for the project. At the time of writing this proposal, thirteen video presentations, including those on Japan Search, Cultural Japan, Minna de Honkoku, Kuronet, Spotlight, and the Ten Thousand Rooms Project, are in process of being made available to public. CDDP seeks through this video series to help Japan scholars overcome obstacles specific to Japan Studies and ensure that they will be poised to take full advantage of the newest technologies.
In this presentation, CDDP task force co-Chairs will present a behind-the-scenes view of the making of this series, how to use it for research and instruction, and what the CDDP’s next steps will be. Given the growing interest in virtual digital resources and collaborative projects, we plan to continue to maintain and add to this series beyond this fiscal year. These resources align with NCC’s mission to prepare a new generation of Japanese studies librarians, scholars, and information specialists to meet the growing challenges and rapidly changing technologies of the field.

2020年から2021年にかけて、北米日本研究資料調整協議会（NCC）では東芝国際財団から資金援助を得て、NCCのウェブサイト上で日本研究者および司書を支援するためデジタル資源ライブラリを構築しようと活動してきた。具体的には、Comprehensive Digitization and Discoverability Program (CDDP)タスクフォースが、Zoomを介して専門家にインタビューを行った後、模範的な最先端デジタルプロジェクト、ツール、およびそれらを通して作成されたリソースに焦点を当てた教育ビデオの作成を依頼した。ビデオは、リソースの利用方法およびその作成に使用されたテクノロジーを紹介する。このプロジェクトの顧問には、人文情報学研究所主席研究員の永崎研宣博士が着任してくださった。現時点では、Japan Search、Cultural Japan、みんなで翻刻、Kuronet、Spotlight、Ten Thousand Roomsプロジェクト等を含む13のビデオの公開を準備中である。CDDPは、このビデオシリーズを通じて、日本研究者が日本研究特有の障害を克服し、最新のテクノロジーを最大限に活用できるよう支援することを目指している。この発表では、CDDPビデオシリーズ作成の舞台裏、研究と教育のための利用方法、およびCDDPの今後の活動に言及する。
