The British Library is advertising a number of PhD placement projects with a deadline of Friday 25th February 5 pm.

One of these placements relates to enhancing discoverability of the Library’s collection of Pre-1900 Japanese Maps (details attached) (Reference: 2022-WH-MAP).
The project will involve:
• adding English and Japanese translations and mathematical cartographic data,
• improving terminology to conform with accepted standards,
• collecting key physical and cartographic information from the maps, such as dimensions and annotations, that have not previously been recorded,
• researching and drafting a report on the Japanese-produced maps to form the basis of a future British Library online Collection Guide.
International PhD students are eligible to apply, subject to meeting any UK visa/residency requirements.
