The C.V. Starr East Asian Library is one of the major collections for the study of East Asia in the United States with over 840,000 volumes of Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Tibetan, and Western language materials and over 7,200 periodical titles.
SOAS has announced 13 job cuts in the Library (nearly 25% of the staff). It will be impossible for the Library to provide the same level of services once the School pushes through the plan. SOAS colleagues need your support so please sign their petition and circulate details to your contacts.

The efforts to achieve an extended access to the NDL digital collections from abroad have reached a new stage. The draft to change the respective law/regulations has been issued. Currently the Japanese government collects public comments concerning the draft. Please find below Prof. Takeuchi’s email. Prof Takeuchi (Vice-President of Chiba University and NCC’s former Japan liaison) has arranged the meeting of Ms. Noguchi and Mr. Dunkel with the representatives of the Bunkachō last year.

The Japan Digital Research Center (JDRC) of the Fung Library at Harvard University seeks an innovative and collaborative information professional to serve as its Japan Digital Scholarship Librarian.
